Profits are buckling under the rising cost of health care. It costs more to be sick now than ever before. Even with all the advances in medicine, it seems that the American population keeps getting sicker.
Unnecessary tests and procedures, as well as proliferating investment in surplus high-tech equipment, add to escalating costs. When hospitals and doctors spend big money for high-tech equipment, this equipment has to be used to pay for itself.
Unnecessary tests are being made to "protect" doctors from the rising costs of malpractice insurance.
Where will it end?
Large and small companies cannot afford to insure their workers. It costs General Motors over $1,000 per vehicle to cover health insurance.
Employees are an integral part of a company. Without healthy workers it is difficult to keep a business moving forward. It seems the cold season runs into hay fever season and then into the flu season. It's just one illness after another, until it's as if people are sick year round.
As today's managers grow older, fitness is becoming
increasingly important. Baby boomers advancing into senior management are more fitness oriented, and are bringing their values of health and vitality into the executive suite.
At last count, 23 countries have fewer deaths from heart disease annually. 13 countries have longer life expectancy.
For our country there is no larger business expense item than health care.
Billions of dollars spent on health care is a staggering sum, and one that can be decreased considerably if Americans would take more responsibility for their health and follow some simple rules.
There is a connection between increased health or "wellness', and productivity.
I have been in the "wellness business" for over 30 years, with empirical success. My program involves a cleansing of the body and a replenishing of nutrients necessary to good health and a long life.
An outreach to American industry is underway.
